“You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God, I will extol you. O give thanks to the Lord, for the Lord is good, for the Lord’s steadfast love endures forever.” [Psalm 118:28-29]
Do you remember the first time you emphatically said, “You are my God?” If you came to faith later in life you may remember the exact date when you gave your allegiance to God. If you grew up in the faith, as I did, your allegiance may have naturally unfolded over the years without a specific date. I remember my sons as preschoolers declaring exuberantly, “We love God.” They loved God and felt loved by God, yet I knew that their young faith would experience challenges and that they would have to reaffirm time and time again the words of the psalmist, “You are my God.” We all have to reaffirm these words again and again as we walk through life. The good news is that “the Lord is good, for the Lord’s steadfast love endures forever.” Even when doubts creep into our lives and we struggle to hold onto faith, we have this assurance from the psalmist, “God’s steadfast love endures forever.” God never gives up on us, thanks be to God!
Steadfast loving God, I am so thankful that your love for me and for others endures. I will give you thanks. I will extol you. I will praise you with all of my heart. I am so thankful for your goodness that has enriched my life in so many varied ways. Thankful for your enduring love. Amen.
