“Then Moses said, ‘I must turn aside and look at this great site, and see why the bush is not burned up.” [Exodus 3:3]
How does God get your attention? I haven’t had a burning bush, but the beauty of nature certainly gets my attention and focuses my thoughts on God. I marvel at the natural life that thrives in and around the pond that was created in my backyard. Over twenty birds were frolicking in the streams the other morning and they seemed just delighted. Their joy caused me to give thanks to God. God gets my attention in other ways, too: through a familiar scripture passage that is illumined by the Spirit in a new way; by a word from another that deeply touches my soul; through the simple joy of an unexpected courtesy by a stranger in the midst of routine errands. God has a way of getting our attention and sometimes God goes to great measures to do so, like God did with Moses. How does God get your attention?
Attention getting God, I confess that I can be oblivious to your presence. I get wrapped up in what I am doing and forget that you are here. So, I give thanks that you are willing to get my attention. Give me the curiosity of Moses, a willingness to stop and recognize your presence in my life. Amen.
